This role will identify new technology availability and trends from Standards Developing Organizations - such as IEEE, ISA, FDT Group, FieldComm Group, OPC Foundation, Open Process Automation Forum, ODVA; other Rockwell Automation Business Units and 3rd party companies within the Rockwell Automation partner eco-system to identify gaps and opportunities to increase the value of the PlantPAx Process Automation System. The candidate will need to be immersed in competitive Process and DCS developments from a technical and industry perspective. The technologist will be responsible for working with the Platform Leader to include identified features in the system roadmap to enhance the connectivity of PlantPAx by expanding integration with value-adding software, process instrumentation and power control products. With a strong focus to increase the value of the Connected Enterprise, this role will define architectures to flow information from field device up - for use in process control and analytics applications to increase the value of the data and the ability to take action on the data either programmatically or with human interaction. It is expected that 50-75% of the Technologists activities will be externally facing with the remaining 25-50% being internally facing depending on the nature of priorities.
Knowledge of current and future field level networking protocols such as EtherNet/IP and HART; device integration files - such as Add-On Profiles, FDI Device Packages and FDT/DTMs; and data sharing technologies such as OPC-UA and Companion Specifications identifying Device Information Models, MQTT, AMQT, HTTP.
Experience with Process Automation, Industrial Automation and/or Information Technology Architectures including field level process instrumentation and power control products to understand the value of getting the right information in the right context to the right application.
Technical aptitude to understand new technologies and the resulting end-user value add of new technology options compared to previous generation solutions.
Drive and curiosity to explore technology considerations beyond what is already accepted as conventional.
Able to achieve desired Rockwell Automation driven outcomes in a complex relationship environment that includes end-users, standards developing organizations and internal business and technical stake holders.
